History of Holm Engineered Solutions

The Beginning

Company founder John Holm started his engineering career in the early 1960’s as a turner & fitter apprentice, following in the footsteps of his father and brother, and has lived and breathed engineering all his working life.

His competence as a quality tradesman and an innate ability to improve manufacturing processes was recognized early in his career and he quickly progressed to engineering supervisor positions.

John had an expansive experience of many industries working in plastics molding, die making, rendering & effluent manufacturing, and general engineering businesses, before moving into production management and plant engineering management in the wood panels industry in the early 1970’s.

From the mid 1970’s to the end of that decade, he took over as the division manager for a hydraulics components manufacturer, and then moved into general management of a world leading specialist in manufacturing wool processing machinery.

For over 10 years John improved manufacturing processes in this sector and was instrumental in the innovation and development of a wool compacting machine that revolutionized the storage and transportation of wool products.

In 1988 John was hired to manage a transport equipment manufacturer and it was here that he designed and commercialized the globally recognized SteelBro Side lifter, a self loading container trailer and saddle carrier.

Tanks & More

In the early 1990’s John bought an engineering business that built under ground storage tanks, and over the next 10 years he restructured and grew the company to be a successful export manufacturer.

Facing what he saw as an inevitable shift away from under ground tank storage early in 2000, John investigated above ground storage tank technology and conducted extensive research into the globally evolving Environmental Protection Agency regulations.

Having identified a market opportunity for above ground environmentally compliant hazardous chemical storage, John pioneered the design and development of fully engineered turn key solutions.

Over the ensuing 7 years John’s marketing and sales activity focused on creating global market awareness of his solutions and developing an appreciation of the environmental and economic benefits of above ground storage solutions.

These efforts resulted in sales of over 300 units into 10 different countries, and he continued to invest heavily in product research & development to meet industry and client needs.

From 2006 – 2009 John developed as series of new generation concepts for the Retail Gas Station market and also conducted extensive research into the latest materials technology with a view to increasing safety and environmental protection.

Where we are today

In late 2009 Holm Engineered Solutions was created as the new brand for the company and a redesigned strategy and business model was adopted, and a new organizational structure and people were engaged.

John’s passion for engineering and his vision of being a key player in the global market for environmentally compliant above ground storage and dispensing systems for hazardous substances and fluids is being fulfilled.
